It is an exciting but also a challenging time for the oil and gas industry in Australia with unprecedented numbers of projects and activity across the sector. We all know too well the huge pressures on facilities, plant and equipment, and the
challenges in recruiting and retaining supervisors and workers with the level of skills and experience required to operate safely and effectively.  In such an environment it is all the more important everyone takes responsibility for safety and we all work together to achieve a high safety performance for all.

World’s First - Integrated Safety Event
Working together for safety continues to be the key theme of the APPEA Safety Conference for 2008. Our 2007
Conference was an outstanding success and saw a world’s first integrated event where HSRs and workforce
representatives, CEOs of Australian Oil and gas operating and contracting companies,
safety professionals and the Regulator all came together to drive safety improvements for the industry.

New Industry Safety Aspiration and Performance Target
Oil and gas CEOs have adopted an industry aspiration that:
       “By working together, nobody gets harmed”
and have adopted an industry target to improve the safety performance of the industry by 25 per cent every year,
year on year.

2008 Safety Conference, HSR Forum and CEO Safety Leadership Forum
In 2008, APPEA again brough together HSRs, CEOs, Regulators and safety professionals who worked  together to strive for real improvements in the safety performance of the oil and gas industry.
